Project scoping, strategy & execution

Our teamwork with clients to identify the Digital Engineering requirements specific to the project.


We work in partnership with our clients to scope the projects requirements, build out a strategy and plan to support your project in the early stages.

  • Scope
    Depending on the project, The Digital Engineering requirements vary greatly.  We work closely with clients to define specific goals to be achieved and take on the whole function without exceptions.

  • Strategy
    Once the scope is defined and internal goals outlined, the team build out the strategy and implementation plan through the Digital Engineering Execution Plan (DEXP) that defines the digital requirements of the project.  We will then work closely with clients to position these requirements commercially in the context of the project to ensure that they are enforceable with the necessary project stakeholders.

  • Execution
    Once the DEXP  is in place, the team will actively implement and manage the digital environment, including induction, training, audits and commercial reviews.

Using BIM

Using Building Information Modelling (BIM) the team can provide multi-disciplinary data to create a detailed digital representation of the project and how it will be executed, monitored and controlled.  BIM gives our clients the confidence to make more informed decisions and eliminate future risks.  The team has extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, InfraWorks and 12D. We push the boundaries and test innovative workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy. We believe there is nothing we cannot model. Leveraging the latest technological advancements and developing innovative workflows, we have been able to create database driven models that are adaptable to any inputs. Therefore, offering our clients a means to close any scope gap identified along the way.


Coordination and Collaboration                 

Through the use of collaboration tools we create and manage virtual forums where all stakeholders can review simulations, share information, and raise issues. We believe the key to successfully leveraging DE technologies is ensuring integration of information.


Construction Phase Support

Our strong understanding in the tools we use coupled by our strong understanding in engineering and construction methods we can provide support working closely with Project Managers testing and planning out the various schemes required to deliver the works.


Handover and Asset Management

CSS will work closely with the Quality and Integration teams to fully understand the end client’s requirements including the contractors’ internal needs. By understanding these requirements, a relevant data set can be defined, captured, and managed. This must be done through understanding the FM system requirements and how the Asset Information Model (AIM) is handled when integrating with the end client’s FM system. This process must be managed to ensure an effective handover.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR)

The benefits of Augmented Reality are seen during the construction phase.  Unlike Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality combines one’s physical surrounding with computer generated information and presents it in real-time.  This perspective allows the construction team to conduct walkthroughs of the project works before they’re executed. 

Virtual Reality (VR)

The implementation of Virtual Reality in construction has opened several possibilities to improve designs, pitching of solutions, training and safety.  Our VR strategy is hinged on using actual model geometry as derived from the current BIM model enabling the VR model to be fluidly updated as the design progresses. 

We work with clients to develop the Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality to deliver:

  • More effective collaboration with clients and stakeholders.

  • Help to ensure compliance against the design, therefore enabling the project team to validate installs.

  • On-site clash detection, enabling the design and construction teams to resolve conflicts quickly and efficiently.

  • Progress tracking and faster completion.


4D Animation and Visualization

Our vision is to drive real time progress reporting, improved collaboration, and open opportunities for new workflows to enhance project efficiency.

This process enables all stakeholders to visualize the design intention and creates the possibility of involving non-technical people.

We see an opportunity with all projects to set a new precedent in the design and construction of market by leveraging off time that will be associated with the design and fabrication-based 3D components.

This is virtually about constructing the asset before its built. These scenario planning techniques will be implemented in what is considered a high-risk installation process to ensure the risk to both the project and the community is minimised.

The team will manage the 4D outputs directly with the planners, construction managers and fabricators as required. Furthermore, with Autodesk InfraWorks, we can create engaging and immersive visual experiences to communicate creative intentions.


Project System Development

Civil Structures Studio understands how complex delivery systems can become on major projects especially having worked on all stages of delivery (from design development through to procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover).

Our aim is to create a system that amplifies the outputs developed during design and stays within budgets. We do this by isolating the strengths of each application and collectively amalgamate the best parts to create the best for project system.

There are many variations and different requirements that make up a project system and these are constantly evolving and changing, sometimes even during delivery. It’s important to implement workflows that are adaptable and interoperable between different application.

The following outlines one example of a project system that has been implemented to manage design documentation through its whole life cycle on a design and construct project. Setup on behalf of the contractor, these systems have been carefully selected and configured to meet the end client’s information requirements, the contractor’s procurement strategy and to enhance collaboration during design and delivery.


Drafting Services

Working primarily in Revit, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D including other advanced software and technology solutions, our team of technicians transform simple information received from engineers and civil designers into 3D visual detailed structural models, design drawings and useable data information that reduces human error and minimises communication breakdowns typically found in a traditional 2D delivery workflow.

Our comprehensive and collaborative process allows for real-time interactive analysis throughout the project life cycle that enable those technical and non-technical to clarify design intent and see any issues early within the process. Therefore, reducing costs and project timeframes while ensuring a timely delivery schedule. It is with our experience and expertise, together with this process, that we provide assurance that the finished model will produce reliable and accurate output data files and deliverables that meets or exceeds client standards.
