CSS's expertise in digital engineering and BIM leadership has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition from design to construction.

By delivering precise and coordinated BIM models, CSS facilitated the development of a construction-ready design that met all project milestones during the pre-construction phase. As construction progresses, the groundwork laid by CSS's collaborative efforts and innovative approach continues to support efficient project delivery and alignment with stakeholder expectations. The Mount Ousley Interchange is poised to become a significant infrastructure achievement, reflecting CSS's commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and collaborative project delivery.

Location: Wollongong, New South Wales

Technical innovations achieved

The Mount Ousley Interchange Design and Construct project aimed to deliver a safer, more efficient, and sustainable interchange for one of NSW key transport corridors. This landmark infrastructure project provided improved connectivity, reduced congestion, and enhanced safety for freight and commuter traffic traveling along the Princes Motorway and the Illawarra region.

Benefits to the client

CSS played a pivotal role in the project, leading the BIM efforts for all structural components as the SMEC Structures BIM Lead. The role encompassed the following key responsibilities:

BIM Leadership:

  • Oversaw and coordinated BIM processes across a diverse and multidisciplinary team comprising CSS and SMEC personnel.

  • Delivered integrated and precise BIM models for all structural assets, ensuring alignment with TfNSW standards and project requirements.

 Team Oversight and Collaboration:

  • Managed a collaborative team of engineers, drafters, and digital specialists from CSS and SMEC to ensure seamless workflows and efficient project delivery.

  • Fostered effective communication between CSS, SMEC, and the Managing Contractor, ensuring alignment of objectives and expectations.

 Innovation and Quality Assurance:

  • Delivered innovative digital engineering solutions, streamlining design coordination, and reducing clashes and rework.

  • Maintained rigorous quality control standards throughout the design process up to issuing Final Documentation Design, contributing to a smooth design-to-construction transition.
