Nogoa River Bridge

Structural Engineering, Construction Phase Support, Temporary Works Design

Nogoa River Bridge Construction Location

DM Composites engaged Civil Structures Studio (CSS) to undertake construction phase design support to design and detailed a precast headstock solution with a construction methodology to improve cost, safety and sustainability.

The Nogoa River bridge is a new 48m 3-span pedestrian bridge in Emerald, Queensland.

The project involved reviewing the design documentation from the original designer and developing an alternative design solution that utilised the same design philosophy but improved constructability.

Innovations / Efficiencies:

The CSS proposed design solutions had to address technical aspects such as minimising precast weight, eliminate formwork requirements in the final position, temporary support on the piles, allowance for lifting and craneage, minimise material and improve safety during construction.

Outcomes / Benefits:

The CSS solution provided a much safer and costs effective outcome that improved the construction program.

Sustainability:

The outcome minimised the need for onsite formwork and major temporary works so there was a significant reduction in construction related embodied carbon.
