BMD Constructions engaged Civil Structures Studio (CSS) to undertake third party verification and certification of the blower building foundation as part of the facilities major capital upgrade works in 2026.
The Charmhaven Sewage Treatment Plant is a critical facility serving communities in the northern part of the Central Coast region. The project encompasses a comprehensive upgrade to the system and supporting infrastructure that will increase the capacity to 75,000 Equivalent Persons (EP) with capacity to expand further to 150,000 EP in future.
Innovations / Efficiencies:
The CSS involvement was independent verification which led to the identification of a number of design and constructability deficiencies. These comments and observations improved the quality of the final solution and contributed to improved cost, safety and constructability of the overall program.
Outcomes / Benefits:
The CSS input contributed to the wider project by providing expert verification to ensure quality deliverables and an efficient design.
Sustainability:
The outcome of several of CSS's comments resulted in a more efficient design, minimising materials where possible and reducing the construction embodied carbon of the project.
