Sydney Metro West Training Facility Shed
Independent Technical Review
Independent structural assurance for a critical training facility supporting Sydney’s next-generation Metro workforce.
CSS was engaged by Gamuda to undertake an independent technical review of the steel-framed Sydney Metro West Training Facility Shed, a large clear-span structure designed to support specialised training activities for Metro staff.
The review assessed the adequacy, integrity, and constructability of the steel structure, ground slab, and footing system, ensuring compliance with relevant structural standards and project-specific requirements. The assessment also included a detailed review of materials, connection details, and documentation against Deed obligations, delivering clear, objective assurance that the facility met functional, safety, and contractual performance criteria. This independent verification strengthened project confidence and supported the safe, efficient delivery of a key asset within the Metro West program.
Technical Achievement:
CSS delivered a robust independent technical verification of the training facility structure, providing an unbiased review of all critical elements to strengthen confidence in the design’s integrity and performance. This included a comprehensive assessment of the steel framing system, ground slab, and footings to verify their capacity under complex operational load conditions. CSS also evaluated material specifications and connection detailing to ensure durability, compliance, and constructability, while undertaking a detailed Deed and standards compliance review to confirm the design and documentation met all contractual, regulatory, and technical obligations.
Benefits To The Client
CSS’s independent review enhanced safety and reliability by verifying the structural adequacy and compliance of the training facility, reducing risks during construction and throughout long-term operation. The assessment strengthened overall project assurance, giving stakeholders confidence in the quality of the design, the accuracy of the documentation, and full adherence to contractual requirements. By confirming efficient and durable structural solutions, the review also optimised lifecycle performance, minimising future maintenance needs, reducing material use, and lowering long-term operational costs.
