The project involved the proof engineering of a new 52-metre steel truss pedestrian and cyclist bridge to improve safety and connectivity between Wentworth Point and Sydney Olympic Park.
Situated adjacent to an existing crossing over Haslam’s Creek, the bridge delivers a wider, 5-metre shared path to support growing pedestrian and cycling demand. CSS was engaged as the Proof Engineer, providing independent technical review, constructability advice, and verification of the proposed structural solution, ensuring the bridge met the required Australian Standards, Transport for NSW specifications, and the client’s long-term asset needs.
Technical Achievements
CSS completed a comprehensive proof engineering review of the steel truss design, with particular focus on compliance, structural behaviour, weld design, erection staging, and the impacts of reduced freeboard and scour protection. Our independent verification identified several non-conformances with AS 5100, which were technically analysed, risk-assessed, and resolved collaboratively with the client. CSS also evaluated the proposed erection methodology to confirm safe construction sequencing, buildability in a constrained foreshore corridor, and compatibility with site logistics and environmental controls.

Early identification of design non-conformances avoided downstream construction issues, minimised commercial and programme risks, and strengthened overall project assurance.
